Biography
I grew up in northern New York State in the town of Canton. I graduated from
Wilkes University in January 1996
with a B.A. degree in Philosophy. After working various "odd"
jobs (retail store manager and advertising typesetter), I decided to
return to school. In the fall of 1997 I enrolled in a master's program at the
School of Information and Library Science at the
University of North Carolina.
It was at UNC where I started to learn internet programming,
database design and an appreciation for college basketball.
In August 1999 I took a full-time position as a software engineer at a small, now-defunct company in Carrboro. For the next three years I worked with various Internet startups. Unfortunately, for various reasons out of my control, such as mismanagement, lack of financing and changing business climate, the companies I worked for all folded. In 2002 I returned to the university setting — this time as an employee. I briefly worked at UNC as a contract worker before finding a permanent position at Elon University. At Elon I worked in the department of University Relations as a web developer for nearly four years.
While at Elon University I took conversational Spanish classes from El Centro del Español for three years and traveled to Costa Rica three times. In the fall of 2005 I put my limited knowledge of Spanish to use by teaching Introduction to Computers for Hispanics to Hispanic parents in the Alamance County community. Since leaving North Carolina I continue to work to improve my Spanish by taking classes and traveling to Spanish-speaking countries.
In the fall of 2006 I moved to New York City to work at Flightpath, an interactive agency. In the early 2008 I became the Director of Technology at Flightpath. In the spring of 2009 I joined the board of the World Organization for Positive Action, an organization dedicated to helping people in Latin America and around the world by distributing medical supplies and food to children and families in need. I currently reside in Park Slope section of Brooklyn.
